Murder of ronderos in Tocto
On July 26, 1991, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso assassinated four peasant ronderos in Tocto, Chumbivilcas, as part of their strategy to eliminate the resistance of the peasant patrols promoted by the military bases.
On July 26, 1991, a column of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso assassinated four peasant ronderos in the area of Tocto, province of Chumbivilcas. This attack took place in the context of the confrontation between the PCP-SL and the nascent peasant patrols that were being promoted by the military bases in the high provinces of Cuzco. Just a month and a half earlier, on June 11, five peasant ronderos had also been executed by a Shining Path column in Chumbivilcas. These murders were part of the PCP-SL's strategy to eliminate any form of autonomous peasant organization that might oppose its territorial control.
