Murder of Iván Pérez

On July 12, 1991, the PCP-SL assassinated Professor Iván Pérez, leader of the PCP Unidad and advisor to the provincial mayor, in Cuzco. This crime was part of the selective assassinations against authorities and political leaders carried out by the Shining Path in the region.

On July 12, 1991, the PCP-SL assassinated Economics Faculty professor Iván Pérez in the city of Cuzco. Iván Pérez was a leader of the PCP Unity and advisor to the provincial mayor of Cuzco, Daniel Estrada. This assassination was part of a series of violent actions by the PCP-SL against authorities, leaders and public officials during 1991. The crime occurred in a context of intensifying violence in the region, which had led to the implementation of a state of emergency in several provinces of the department.
