Extrajudicial executions in Santa Bárbara - Mina Misteriosa

Army patrol killed 15 peasants in the Misteriosa mine, Santa Barbara, by riddling them with bullets and dynamiting the site.

An Army patrol under the command of Infantry Lieutenant Javier Bendezú Vargas killed fifteen people, including adults and children, in a mine known as 'Misteriosa'. The detainees were taken into the tunnel, riddled with FAL bullets and then dynamite explosive charges were set off, causing a deflagration that ended up scattering the remains of the bodies. The victims included seven adults and seven children from the Hilario family and other community members from Rodeo Pampa. The military also stole cattle, burned houses and mistreated the villagers before committing the massacre.
