Departure of military patrols from Lircay Base
Two military patrols departed from Base Lircay to initiate an operation that would culminate in the Santa Barbara massacre.
Two military patrols departed from the Lircay Base in execution of the 'Apolonia' operation. The 'Escorpio' patrol was commanded by Infantry Lieutenant Javier Bendezú Vargas and departed at 6:00 p.m. to the area known as Cochajaccsa. The patrol 'Angel' was commanded by Lieutenant Abel Gallo Coca. Both patrols went to different points but with a similar final destination, finally arriving at Rodeo Pampa on July 4 where the massacre took place.
