Murder of Alejandro Magno Gomez, prefect of Villa El Salvador
Assassination of the prefect of Villa El Salvador by the PCP-SL, initiating a campaign against authorities.
On June 23, 1991, the PCP-SL assassinated Alejandro Magno Gomez, prefect of the district of Villa El Salvador and member of Cambio 90, the ruling party. This was the first act of a campaign to intimidate and eliminate local authorities in the district. After this assassination, local authorities, particularly Mayor Johny Rodriguez, Deputy Mayor Maria Elena Moyano and former Mayor Michel Azcueta, began receiving death threats.
