Detention of Víctor Zavala Cataño
Arrest by the GEIN of Professor Víctor Zavala Cataño, member of the leadership cell of Socorro Popular del Perú and linked to the University of La Cantuta. His capture later made it possible to dismantle important structures of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in Lima.
On June 22, 1991, Professor Victor Zavala Cataño, who had links with the University of La Cantuta since the beginning of the internal war, was arrested by the GEIN (Special Intelligence Group). Zavala Cataño was a member of the leadership cell of Socorro Popular del Perú, an organization of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. His arrest was part of an operation that also captured Tito Valle Travesaño and Yovanka Pardavé, other members of the same cell. This capture was key to subsequent operations, including the intervention of the PCP-SL's main 'health depot' at the Asociación de Vivienda 2 de Agosto during Dircote's operation 'Hipócrates' on February 26, 1992.
