Execution of ronderos in Chumbivilcas

On June 11, 1991, five peasant ronderos were executed by a column of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso in Chumbivilcas, Cuzco, as part of their strategy to confront the peasant patrols promoted by the military bases.

A column of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso executed five peasant ronderos in the province of Chumbivilcas. This attack was part of the Shining Path's strategy to confront the nascent peasant patrols that were being promoted by the military bases in the highland provinces. The PCP-SL considered the community patrols as "mesnadas" and a central enemy, seeking to maintain the monopoly of justice against cattle rustling in the area. Later, on July 26 of the same year, the PCP-SL murdered another four ronderos in the area of Tocto, also in Chumbivilcas, demonstrating the persistence of their campaign against the peasant self-defense organizations.
