On June 3, 1991, Galina Ivanova, a Soviet citizen and official in charge of design at Tejidos La Unión, was assassinated by the PCP-SL. According to a Shining Path leader, the motive was that a class-conscious worker leader had been degraded and mistreated, and when he complained he died of a heart attack, so they decided to seek justice.
