La Cantuta was militarily intervened at 3:00 a.m. on May 22, 1991, following a visit by then president Fujimori to the campus. Military troops stormed the university. By then, most of the 300 residents were aware of the situation and had managed to leave the premises beforehand. Among the students who had been taken over were Armando Amaro Condor, Marcelino Rosales and Felipe Flores Chipana, who would be assassinated the following year by the Colina Group. A military base was installed, a severe military control was imposed, including a curfew, the graffiti was erased and the Comedor was taken over by the troops.
