Seizure of San Juan del Oro by MRTA

On May 3, 1991, the MRTA took the town of San Juan del Oro in the province of Sandia, Puno, and held a public rally. This action was part of MRTA's strategy to establish a presence in the provinces of Sandia and Moho during that year.

On May 3, 1991, the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) took the town of San Juan del Oro, located in the province of Sandia, department of Puno. During the takeover of the town, the MRTA held a public rally. This action is part of the period of increased MRTA presence in the department of Puno, particularly in the provinces of Sandia and Moho, where the subversive group managed to establish its presence during 1991. The MRTA had made its appearance in the department of Puno since April 1987, with propaganda and sabotage actions in the cities of Puno and Juliaca.
