Detention and sexual violence in Surquillo
Detention of a woman in Surquillo on April 5, 1991, who was later sexually abused and blackmailed in the Chorrillos prison in 1992.
One informant was detained in the district of Surquillo on April 5, 1991. She was later transferred to the Santa Monica Penitentiary in Chorrillos, where in 1992 a colonel in charge of the prison conditioned benefits to the inmates in exchange for sexual favors. The colonel would take groups of women out to sing the hymn and conditioned visits, transfers and better prison conditions. Some inmates agreed to be used sexually by the officers to obtain these benefits.
