On March 21, 1991, the Puerto Alegre Self-Defense Committee (CAD) was formed with advice from the Navy, playing a fundamental role in the defeat of PCP-SL in Lake Imiria and the Tamaya River. Its strategic location and knowledge of the terrain were key to guide counter-subversive operations.

The Puerto Alegre Self-Defense Committee (CAD) was formed on March 21, 1991, with logistical and technical advice from the Peruvian Navy. This CAD played a fundamental role in the counter-subversive struggle and in the defeat of PCP-SL in Lake Imiria and in some areas of the Tamaya River, due to its strategic location. The excellent knowledge of the hydrographic network of the Tamaya River and its tributaries, dry docks and trails that communicated with the hidden PCP-SL committees were fundamental for the gradual defeat of the Shining Path in the area. The CAD Puerto Alegre guided the Navy helicopters to the Shining Path committees, managing to bomb the Vinuncuro, Suaya and Butsaya Committees. One of the Brazilian settlers was named as the first president of the CAD, reflecting the influence of this population in the hamlet founded on June 24, 1940.
