The Comité Central de Rondas Campesinas del Tulumayo received shotguns in 1991, after operating without firearms since the early 1990s. Along with the weapons, the military began military training for the ronderos.

In 1991, the Comité Central de Rondas Campesinas del Tulumayo received shotguns from the Army, marking a significant change in their defensive capacity. Since the beginning of 1990, the peasant patrols had been traveling the Tulumayo without firearms, in close coordination with the Army. With the delivery of the shotguns, military instruction of the ronderos by the military began simultaneously. This armament allowed the peasant patrols to strengthen their fight against the subversive detachments of the PCP-SL in the region.
