Feliberta Sacha Martinez was a leader of an aid organization in Huancavelica who was assassinated in 1991. Her death is part of the offensive by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso against the leaders of popular and grassroots organizations that intensified from mid-1991 onwards. The PCP-SL systematically attacked women leaders working in welfare organizations, soup kitchens and other grassroots organizations, considering them obstacles to their territorial and political control. Feliberta Sacha Martinez is one of nearly one hundred women leaders assassinated during the internal armed conflict, most of them by the PCP-SL.
