Death of Paulina Pariona Quimiche

Paulina Pariona Quimiche, a member of the board of directors of a peasant community in Ayacucho, was murdered in 1991. Her death is attributed to Rondas de autodefensa or PCP-SL.

Paulina Pariona Quimiche was a leader of the Comunidad Campesina or peasant association in Ayacucho who held the position of Member of the Board of Directors. She was assassinated in 1991 during the period of intensified political violence in the region. Her death is part of the systematic offensive against social leaders, particularly women leaders of grassroots organizations, that took place during that period. The case illustrates the pattern of violence against women leaders in rural areas of Ayacucho during the internal armed conflict.
