MRTA armed incursion in Nueva Cajamarca on November 5, 1990, as part of a wider military campaign by the Northeastern Front in the department of San Martin.

On November 5, 1990, the Tupacamarista Army (ET) of the Northeastern Front of the MRTA carried out an incursion in Nueva Cajamarca. This action was part of a series of military operations carried out by the MRTA during the second half of 1990, when the organization had managed to reconstitute its military force and expand its presence in the department of San Martin. By August 1990, the MRTA had reached five hundred combatants distributed in eight zones of control. The incursion in Nueva Cajamarca took place in a context of intense MRTA military activity, which included other important seizures such as Moyobamba (August 16) and Yurimaguas (July 25).
