Assassination of the Deputy Mayor in Sanagorán

The PCP-Sendero Luminoso assassinated the Deputy Mayor of Sanagorán on October 4, 1990, as part of its strategy of systematically eliminating local authorities in the province of Sánchez Carrión.

On October 4, 1990, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso assassinated the Deputy Mayor in the district of Sanagorán, province of Sánchez Carrión. This assassination is part of the PCP-SL's systematic strategy of eliminating local authorities in the Huamachuco region. Previously, in 1984, the PCP-SL had already assassinated Mayor Alejandro Polo Baca and Governor Teodoro Salvatierra in Sanagorán on May 15. The violence against the authorities continued until the town was left without any of them, while the PCP-SL carried out incursions to recruit people in the Plaza de Armas, loot stores, paint walls and call armed strikes.
