General strike CGTP

General strike called by the CGTP in August 1990 had little acceptance. The strike did not succeed in paralyzing the country in the context of the beginning of Fujimori's government.

The General Confederation of Peruvian Workers (CGTP) called a general strike during August 1990, in the context of the recently initiated government of Alberto Fujimori. The strike had little acceptance among the population and did not succeed in paralyzing the country's activities. This strike took place at a time of economic and social crisis, shortly after the government implemented economic adjustment measures. The failure of the strike was evidence of the weakness of the union movement at that critical moment in Peruvian history.
