Taking of Yurimaguas
The MRTA took the city of Yurimaguas on July 25, 1990, concentrating detachments from three different zones. The action resulted in the capture of several policemen and the recovery of a significant amount of weapons, double the amount obtained in Juanjui in 1987.
In order to take the city of Yurimaguas, the MRTA concentrated in Chazuta the detachments located in Yurimaguas, Central Huallaga and Alto Mayo. The subversives began the attack on the police posts and the CRAS. The police posts were the first to fall into the hands of the guerrillas who managed to capture several policemen who were exhibited during the rally held in the Plaza de Armas. The premises of the Civil Guard were captured taking two policemen as prisoners, and the premises of the Republican Guard were also taken with six policemen who were taken prisoner. The amount of weapons recovered in Yurimaguas was double what was obtained in the first capture of Juanjui in 1987.
