Fernando Colonio, a lawyer working for the National University of San Cristobal de Huamanga (UNSCH), was murdered on July 21, 1990 by undercover law enforcement agents. Colonio had made a series of denunciations of fundamental rights violations by the security forces. His murder took place in the context of a wave of violence against members of the university community. Three days after his death, on July 24, Ciro Aramburú, head of University Welfare at UNSCH, was murdered in similar circumstances.
