Murder of Fernando Colonio

Fernando Colonio, a UNSCH lawyer who had denounced violations of fundamental rights, was assassinated on July 21, 1990 by paramilitary commandos. His death was part of a systematic campaign of violence against the university community of Huamanga.

Fernando Colonio, a lawyer who worked for the San Cristobal de Huamanga National University, was murdered on July 21, 1990. Colonio had denounced fundamental rights violations. His murder was perpetrated by paramilitary commandos in the context of a wave of violence against members of the university community. This crime took place in a period of intense violence in the city of Huamanga, where both the Shining Path PCP and paramilitary groups systematically attacked university professors, students and workers.
