MRTA took Yurimaguas with 95 fighters, freed prisoners and allowed looting of stores
The MRTA raided the city of Yurimaguas with 95 armed men who attacked the Navy base and the police post in two groups, forcing the few troops to surrender and freeing prisoners in the local jail. While one group held a rally, another group opened the doors of the commercial centers so that the villagers could take possession of the goods. At the rally they asked the villagers if they wanted them to kill the three policemen they had tied up, the attendees said no and thus saved their lives.
