In July 1990, armed confrontations took place between the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL) and the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) in the Ledoy area, department of San Martin. These battles between both subversive organizations left dozens of people dead. The confrontation took place in the context of the territorial dispute between both armed groups for the control of strategic areas in the Peruvian jungle.
