Bodies of Jaime Cerrón Palomino and Armando Tapia found in Tierra Blanca
The tortured bodies of UNCP Vice Rector Jaime Cerrón Palomino and his driver Armando Tapia were found in Tierra Blanca, Huancayo, eleven days after their arrest. The case had a great impact on public opinion.
On June 19, 1990, the lifeless bodies of Jaime Cerrón Palomino, Vice Rector of the National University of Central Peru, and his driver Armando Tapia were found in a place known as Tierra Blanca in the city of Huancayo. Both had been arrested on June 8, 1990. The bodies showed visible signs of having been tortured. This event had a strong impact on regional public opinion and took place in the context of an increase in disappearances and extrajudicial executions of members of the university community allegedly linked to the PCP-SL.
