The second round of the presidential elections was held between Alberto Fujimori Fujimori (Cambio 90) and Mario Vargas Llosa (FREDEMO). The official results gave a resounding victory to Fujimori with 62% of the votes against 38% for Vargas Llosa. The victory was promptly recognized by his contender. Prior to the elections, the first round had been held on April 8, and between the two rounds there was an electoral debate between the two candidates.
