Alberto Fujimori wins runoff election over Mario Vargas Llosa
On June 10, the run-off election between Alberto Fujimori and Mario Vargas Llosa took place. Fujimori won by a wide margin after saying during the electoral debate that he would not apply the shock economic policy. The electoral process had produced a new leadership of extremely high popularity in which ideological rejection of the adjustment policy and rejection of all political parties converged.
