In June 1990, second round presidential elections were held in the central region of Peru. The Armed and Police Forces guaranteed that these elections were held in almost all the voting centers in the region, despite the context of political violence generated by the PCP-SL and the MRTA. These elections were held after the municipal elections of November 1989 and the first presidential round of April 1990. The electoral process took place at a critical moment of violence in the region, when both the PCP-SL and the MRTA maintained an active presence in several areas of Junín, Pasco and Huánuco.
