Hikers raid and murder in the community of Huashua

Hikers raid in Huashua with revenge for previous ethnic discrimination

In May 1990, a Shining Path column raided the community of Huashua, Apurimac, looting the belongings of the villagers. When the villagers tried to defend their clothes, food and animals, they were mistreated. Gregoria was beaten, her hands were stepped on and her feet were tied, fracturing her hands. Among the hikers she recognized a woman with whom she had previously lived, who reproached her for her former mistreatment, saying: 'Come out, you want to die with a bullet or a knife, why did you call me chuta? Chuta am I, do you remember?', showing revenge for previous discrimination.
