On March 22 and 23, 1990, a nationwide agrarian strike was held throughout Peru. The mobilization was called by agrarian organizations to demand from the government the restitution of credits granted by the Agrarian Bank. This strike was framed in a context of intense social protests and political violence during the 1990 electoral process. The event was part of a series of strikes and strikes that characterized that period, including the strike in the department of San Martin initiated on March 15 by the Front for the Defense of the Interests of San Martin and the Selva Maestra Agrarian Federation.
