First GEIN operation: Operation Isa
First intelligence operation of GEIN following the trail of Comrade Isa of PCP-SL
On March 5, 1990, the GEIN initiated its first intelligence operation, baptized Isa. Comrade Isa, a member of the Operational Support Group (GAP) of the PCP-SL, had been arrested in 1986 by the DIRCOTE and was released shortly afterwards for lack of evidence. That same year, the mother of a young man captured by Isa left a letter with her telephone number and address at DIRCOTE. Jimenez kept the letter arguing that the conditions were not conducive to enter the intelligence phase. In 1990, he would begin the work of his group using the data he had kept for almost five years.
