General Assembly of Tulumayo communities

General assembly in March 1990 where delegates from the 48 communities of Tulumayo agreed to form the Central Committee of the Rondas Campesinas del Alto y Bajo Tulumayo to coordinate the defense against the Shining Path.

In March 1990, delegates from the 48 communities of Tulumayo met in a general assembly to coordinate the organization of the peasant patrols that had begun to form since January of that year. In this assembly they agreed to form the Central Committee of the Rondas Campesinas del Alto y Bajo Tulumayo, establishing a centralized organizational structure to confront the Shining Path. The communities had organized themselves on the model of the Shining Path Committees, forming Self-Defense Committees made up of groups of Rondas. This assembly marked a crucial moment in the consolidation of peasant resistance against the PCP-SL in the Tulumayo region.
