Seizure of Cochas by armed group presenting itself as MRTA

Hooded armed group took the capital of the district of Cochas presenting themselves as MRTA, killing four people after torturing them: Cirilo Muñoz, Benedicto Muñoz, Serafina Vasquez and Eli Orihuela.

On the night of February 19, 1990, a group of people with their faces covered with balaclavas and armed with rifles took the capital of the Cochas district, presenting themselves to the population as MRTA militants. One of the hooded men read out a list of names, among them Cirilo Muñoz, Benedicto Muñoz, Serafina Vasquez and Eli Orihuela. These people were located, tortured and killed inside a house. This event occurred in a context of confrontation between peasant patrols and subversive detachments in the Tulumayo area, just days after the inhabitants of Cochas agreed to organize peasant patrols on January 19, 1990.
