Attack on Henry Pease García-Yrigoyen during the election campaign
Presidential candidate Henry Pease García-Yrigoyen (IU) was shot with lead pellets by a member of the PNP while on a campaign tour in downtown Lima on February 7, 1990.
Presidential candidate Henry Pease García-Yrigoyen of Izquierda Unida (IU) was walking through downtown Lima when he was wounded by a member of the Peruvian National Police (PNP) with lead shot. The attack occurred in the middle of the electoral campaign for the 1990 general elections, in a context of intense political violence in the country. Pease García-Yrigoyen was one of the main presidential candidates, seconded by Agustín Haya de La Torre and Gustavo Mohme Llona.
