On February 5, 1990, Julio Alvarado Bardales, a coca farmer, was arrested by Army troops at a party. He was accused of being a terrorist because members of the PCP-SL sometimes came to his house. Days later he was taken to his father's house, who saw that his ears had been cut off. Three days later, the father found a part of the corpse, only the torso with one leg, stuck between stones in the Huallaga River.
