Torture at Los Laureles Military Base

Military base operated as a systematic torture center with executions and disappearances between 1990-1993.

Counter-subversive Battalion No. 313 in Tingo Maria was a detention center where people were systematically tortured for their alleged links to terrorism. Methods included beatings, electric shocks, boiling water, drowning, hanging and the use of 'la parrilla'. Several former soldiers and detainees testified about torture, extrajudicial executions and disappearances. The bodies of the executed were thrown into the Huallaga River. Some detainees were released in exchange for money.
