Weakening of unions in Huancavelica

At the beginning of 1990, the mining unions in Huancavelica were weakened by Shining Path attacks against leaders and arbitrary arrests by the military intelligence service. This process ended up dismantling the union organization in most of the mining centers in the region.

In the early 1990s, Huancavelica's mining unions experienced a significant weakening as a result of political violence. Shining Path attacks against union leaders, combined with arbitrary detentions by the military intelligence service, ended up weakening union organization in most of the region's mining centers. This weakening process took place in a context of militarization of the mining centers and accusations of terrorism against union leaders by mining businessmen. The situation was aggravated by arrests, torture and assassinations by both military forces and subversive groups.
