Installation of military base in Vista Alegre

In 1990, during the Fujimori administration, a military base was installed in the Vista Alegre annex, Chicche district, as part of the counter-offensive against the PCP-SL. This installation caused the notorious decrease of the Shining Path presence in the Canipaco valley.

Under Alberto Fujimori's government, a military base was installed in 1990 in the Vista Alegre annex, Chicche district. This installation was part of the military counteroffensive in the Canipaco valley, along with other bases established in San Juan de Jarpa that same year, and later in Chongos Bajo, Huamancaca Chico and Chupaca in 1991. With the installation of this military base, the presence of the PCP-SL decreased notoriously throughout the area. The army deployed a major tracking action throughout the Canipaco Valley, reaching even the most remote communities, causing the PCP-SL to almost completely disappear from the region.
