In 1990, in the town of Llaclla, province of Bolognesi, peasant Esau Moreno Cotrina, Nilton Loli Mauricio (Director of the Educational Center) and teacher Saturnino Cerrate were arrested by members of the National Police Special Operations Directorate. All three were accused of being Shining Path members. This arrest took place in the context of a brutal police counter-offensive in the province of Bolognesi, which included other arrests and disappearances in nearby communities such as Pimachi, Aco and Huanri. The bodies of the three detainees were never found, constituting cases of forced disappearance.
