Creation of the province of Oyón

The province of Oyón was created in 1990 during the internal armed conflict. Prior to the Agrarian Reform, the area had large cattle ranches that coexisted with communal territories.

The province of Oyón was created in the midst of the internal armed conflict in 1990. Prior to the implementation of the Agrarian Reform, there were some large estates in the province, mostly cattle ranches, coexisting with communal territories. According to the 1993 Census, the province had 17,279 inhabitants. The province was created in a context of political violence in the northern region of Lima.
