Death of José Rafael Vives

José Rafael Vives, a member of law enforcement, was killed in combat in San Martín in 1990. According to his testimony, he was participating in an intervention with twenty-two men armed with six rifles, leaving with three rifles and MGP machine guns that were not suitable for that type of combat in the area. During the engagement, his colleague on the left was hit in the jugular vein and heart and was killed instantly. This case illustrates the difficult conditions and inadequate weaponry with which the forces of law and order operated during the internal armed conflict.
