Orurillo Massacre
PCP-SL massacres eight people in Orurillo, including elected mayor and authorities
On the night of December 3, 1989, a PCP-SL column entered Orurillo and assassinated eight people: IU mayor-elect Tomás Quispesayhua (secretary general of the district peasant federation), Godofredo Marrón (secretary general of SUTEP), Pedro Pablo Tito Limache (primary school teacher), Julio Céspedes (director of the Agricultural College), Víctor Quispesayhua (governor), Nicolás Cahuata (justice of the peace), Mario Lizardo Lopez Quispe (peasant) and Benito Isidro Mamani Condori (driver). After the massacre, the hikers dynamited the municipality, the medical post and set fire to the houses of their victims. The events left 8 widows and 31 orphaned children.
