Annulment of municipal elections in Huamanga

The Provincial Jury of Elections of Huamanga annulled the municipal elections in thirteen districts because more than 74% of the votes were null or blank. This situation reflected the climate of political violence and the strategy of the PCP-SL to boycott the electoral processes.

The Provincial Jury of Elections of Huamanga informed that in thirteen districts the municipal elections held days before were annulled. The annulment was due to the fact that the number of null and blank votes exceeded 74% of the total vote in these districts. This occurred in a context of intense political violence and PCP-SL actions aimed at boycotting the electoral process. The high proportion of null and blank votes reflected both the climate of intimidation and the population's refusal to participate in the electoral process under these conditions.
