Failed PCP-SL raid in Iparia
On November 3, 1989, PCP-SL tried unsuccessfully to organize the population of Iparia and appoint authorities. A fortuitous event allowed the villagers to escape, and they alerted the armed forces.
On November 3, 1989, the PCP-SL carried out an incursion into the town of Iparia with the objective of organizing the population and appointing authorities under their control. During the action, they gathered the villagers, but a fortuitous event confused the subversives and allowed the escape of the prisoners and most of the gathered people. PCP-SL could not name any authorities because most of the villagers fled to Pucallpa or to their farms and immediately notified the armed forces. After this unsuccessful incursion, the subversives headed towards the hamlet of Charasmaná, at the mouth of the Tamaya River.
