March for peace during SL armed strike

50,000 people marched for peace on the day of the SL armed strike.

In response to the 1989 SL armed strike, politicians of diverse political tendencies such as FREDEMO and Izquierda Unida, sectors of civil society and churches such as the Peru, Life and Peace movement, and others joined forces to call for a march with a broad message to continue confronting terror and the dirty war. A turnout of some 50,000 people was achieved on the day of the strike. The Peruvian Episcopal Conference sent its message of support.
