Ambush and assassination of three authorities of Chaquicocha
Three authorities of Chaquicocha (Viviano Cueva Macha, Onedino Damian Macha and Javier Macha Tacza) were ambushed and killed by the PCP-SL in the Pilcomayo district in November 1989.
In November 1989, near the Pilcomayo district, three authorities of the Chaquicocha annex were ambushed and murdered by the PCP-SL. The victims were Viviano Cueva Macha, Onedino Damian Macha (Administrator) and Javier Macha Tacza (Community Prosecutor). This attack was part of a wave of systematic assassinations against local authorities that the PCP-SL carried out in the Alto Cunas area during that period. The assassinations were aimed at eliminating the communal power structure and facilitating the installation of Shining Path Popular Committees in the region.
