Assassination of Enrique Castilla Linares, textile leader

Assassination of union leader Enrique Castilla by the PCP-SL, considered a mistake by the organization.

On October 31, 1989, the PCP-SL assassinated Enrique Castilla Linares, secretary general of the La Union de Tejidos La Union and a prominent class-conscious union leader of 48 years of age. He was killed with three bullets during the armed strike of November 3. Castilla had been permanently threatened with graffiti on the walls after the VIII Congress of the Textile Workers Federation. His assassination had a great negative impact and marked the beginning of the PCP-SL's discredit among the workers. A year later, El Diario admitted that his death had been a miscalculation of the deadlines.
