Valuis Maravi, a resident of Andas in Cochas, was disappeared by Shining Path militants in October 1989. His disappearance occurred after he proposed to his neighbors to denounce the Shining Path, in a context where the villagers were tired of the abuses and food shortages imposed by the new Shining Path order. This was one of the initial attempts of opposition that were paid for with his life, before the general uprising of the villagers. Days after his disappearance, on October 11, 1989, Shining Pathists murdered four villagers in Runatullo, accused of opposing the party.
