In October 1989, the Shining Path PCP carried out a massacre in Sallalli, Vinchos district, Huanta province. This attack was part of a series of violent incursions that the PCP-SL carried out in the rural areas of northern Ayacucho (Huanta, Huamanga, La Mar) between 1989 and 1990, when it tried to recover spaces lost to the peasant patrols. The Sallalli massacre occurred in a context of sustained confrontations that coincided with poor harvests, which accentuated the peasants' rejection of the subversive columns that tried to obtain food from the population. Ten people died in this attack.
