Murder of 5 people in Huancapón
In September 1989, the PCP-SL assassinated five people in Huancapón, Cajatambo, including the mayor, justice of the peace, lieutenant governor and two teachers, as part of its strategy to eliminate resistant authorities.
The PCP-SL murdered five people in the district of Huancapon, Cajatambo province. The victims were Mayor Juan Lizzeti Torres, Justice of the Peace Willy Lizzetti Salazar, Lieutenant Governor Inocente Cabanillas Rosales, and two teachers: Ángeles Concepción Chávez y Solís. These murders were part of the Shining Path strategy of eliminating resistant local authorities and unsympathetic teachers. The murders coincided in date and time with the assassination of the Mayor of Cajatambo, Felipe Vergara, in the town of Astobamba in October of the same year.
