Assassination of authorities and teachers in Huacapón
In September 1989, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso assassinated five people in Huacapón, Cajatambo: three local authorities (the Mayor, the Justice of the Peace and the Lieutenant Governor) and two teachers, as part of their strategy to eliminate resistant authorities.
In September 1989, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso murdered five people in the district of Huacapon, Cajatambo province. The victims were three local authorities: Mayor Juan Lizzeti Torres, Justice of the Peace Willy Lizzetti Salazar and Lieutenant Governor Inocente Cabanillas Rosales. Along with them, two teachers were murdered: Ángeles Concepción Chávez and Solís Felipe Vergara. This attack was part of the Shining Path strategy of systematic aggression against resistant authorities and unsympathetic teachers in the Cajatambo region. The murders coincided in date and time with the murder of the Mayor of Cajatambo, evidencing a coordinated action of the PCP-SL in the province.
